Profess Interview Series: Inpop Recording Artist Jimmy Needham

Download this episode (36 min)
This edition of the Profess Interview Series brings to you an exclusive conversation between C.E. Moore and Inpop recording artist, Jimmy Needham. In our interview, Jimmy talks about people messing up his name, his new music video for his ‘Firefly’ single, the use of spoken word poetry in his albums, and his work with Gospel For Asia.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Jimmy Needham refuses to compartmentalize his life. His music, his faith, his calling are so inextricably intertwined, it is impossible to decipher where one stops and another begins. It is this fusion of temporal life with eternal values that dresses his faith in flesh. It’s a connection between the intangible spirit and corporeal expectations of this workaday world that imbue his music with a raw emotional transparency that crosses boundaries, cuts through bonds, pricks the conscience, and ultimately nestles softly in listeners’ hearts.

Profess Interview Series: Ron Martoia, author of "Transformational Architecture"

Download this episode (48 min)
This edition of the Profess Interview Series brings to you an exclusive conversation between C.E. Moore and Ron Martoia, author of “Transformational Architecture.” In our interview, Ron talks about understanding our own context as we seek to tell the Gospel story, reconsidering our approach to evangelism, his thoughts on the “moment of salvation,” and how to talk about Christian growth with new language.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Dr. Ron Martoia is a transformational architect. What in the world is that you ask? Ron helps people and the organisms they serve, design and then journey through the experience of deep change. He consults with executive teams in corporate settings, but specializes in churches. The landscape of ministry is undergoing quantum changes. Many of these changes are theological and cultural shifts that in turn change the way churches see and then intersect their communities.

Author of numerous periodical articles, his first book project was entitled Morph!, a volume helping leaders do good self leadership as they foster creative and compelling environments. Ron's second book came out in May of 2007. Static: Tuning out the "Christian Noise" to Experience the Real Message of Jesus, addresses how the words we use are containers, which engender or endanger genuine dialogue. The sequel to Static, Transformational Architecture: Resphaing Our Lives As Narrative, looks at the skyrocketing interest in spirituality in our culture and how to use those entry points so we can enter the arena of spiritual conversations.

In addition to his consulting and writing, his most exciting enterprise is the founding and facilitating of a new experimental learning model called III:TEXT. This is an attempt to broker and facilitate a sort of curator look at the best theological, practical and leadership development tools available. For those unable to explore seminary or looking for a different experience than traditional schooling, this may be the option you have been looking for. So far this experience has been met with eager participation and praise.
Ron's doctorate is in the area of leadership and culture. In addition to having served on adjunct faculty at several Universities, Ron has provided leadership training and organizational development in 12 countries of the world.

You can learn more about Ron and his ministry at www.velocityculture.com.

We’d like to thank Ron Martoia for answering some of our burning questions about his book and a special thanks to Robin Geelhoed of Zondervan Publishing for setting up this interview.

Profess Interview Series: Kevin Roose, author of "The Unlikely Disciple"

Download this episode (39 min)
This edition of the Profess Interview Series brings to you an exclusive conversation between C.E. Moore and Kevin Roose, author of “The Unlikely Disciple. In our interview, Kevin talks about the culture shock of transferring from Brown University to Liberty University, his thoughts on the course offerings, living in the Liberty community but not being “of” the community, conducting the final interview with the Rev. Jerry Falwell, and his musings about his own spiritual journey.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Kevin Roose is a 21-year-old writer and college student. He was born in Oberlin, Ohio, a liberal college town plopped down improbably in the middle of the Lake Erie Rust Belt. Before becoming an author, he held down various part-time jobs, including working as a tennis camp counselor, a juice bar barista, and a biblical slave (long story).

During his sophomore year at Brown University, he met a group of students from Liberty University, the late Reverend Jerry Falwell’s “Bible Boot Camp” for young evangelicals. Inspired by that meeting, he decided to leave Brown and spend a semester “abroad” at Liberty, learning about his conservative Christian peers by living among them. He chronicled his experiences in THE UNLIKELY DISCIPLE: A Sinner’s Semester at America's Holiest University, which is being published in March 2009 by Grand Central Publishing.

Since returning to Brown, Roose has continued writing for national publications like Esquire, SPIN, and mental_floss, on topics as wide-ranging as barbershop quartets, 19th-century magicians, and cell-phone ringtones. He is a staff writer for the College Hill Independent, a regular columnist for the Brown Daily Herald, and a Rose Writing Fellow. In 2008, he was given a Royce Fellowship for his journalism, and barring an act of God, he will graduate from Brown in 2009 with an English degree. He lives in Providence, Rhode Island.

A special thanks to Kevin Roose for taking the time to answer some of our questions and to Tanisha Christie & Nick Small of Hachette Book Group for setting this up for us.
